Perennial varieties of plants are more resiliant. As established plants are hardier and less liable to fail than tender young new plants. Your soil is regenerated naturally. Leaves and foliage shed from perennial plants break down and decompose into fertiliser. As this happens, year on year, your soil becomes deeper. If you grow healthy food; when you eat that food, you too are healthy.
