About Us & Profiles - Chris Hurst

Who Am I?
Taught by grandparents from a very early age how to grow my own food, forage, save seed, preserve my own food, traditional skills & crafts, and how to be self sufficient and resilient. I was taught that when I grew up I wasn’t allowed to keep this knowledge for myself; I had to teach it to others.
Working in farming for several years throughout my later teen and early adult years, I acquired more knowledge and skills from traditional farmers and smallholders. I also spent many years studying ecology.
After raising my family (whilst working in advice and counselling) I came back to my passion; the land. I undertook my qualification in Permaculture and moved into design work and teaching full time. Last year I finally undertook my official teacher training(s) and got the pieces of paper that said I was qualified to do what I have been doing all my life.

Having always used my knowledge and skills to grow my own food and be as self sufficient as possible, I have spent a lifetime teaching others (anyone who wanted to learn) to do the same.
For the last 10 years I have worked full time; designing edible ecosystems, foodscapes and wildlife gardens, and helping people to implement them. I also teach both on a one-to-one basis and through courses, workshops and talks.
